Defined benefit funds
If you are currently in a defined benefit fund (Gold State Super, for example) think carefully before leaving it for another fund. Defined benefit funds have special features that move the investment risk away from members. This is because your final benefit is usually linked to your salary before retirement and your length of service, rather than to investment returns. You may benefit from high investment returns if you leave a defined benefit fund but you will also take on the risk of poor investment returns.
See 'Understanding the different super schemes' for more information.
