Preparing for choice
If you're eligible to choose your own super fund, follow these tips to help you make the right decision:
-
Find out more about superannuation in general.
-
Work out what you want from your superannuation.
-
Find out about your current super fund and decide whether it meets your needs.
You can find out about the benefits and costs of your current superannuation fund by reading the fund's Product Disclosure Statement, which you can get from the fund. This will tell you what you need to know, including:
-
Your options at retirement.
-
Any death and disability insurance benefits.
-
Fees and costs.
-
Investment options you may be able to choose.
-
Objectives, strategy, risks and historical returns of each investment option.
Alternatively, you can also request information from your fund about its main features and investment performance.
If your current fund doesn't meet your needs, shop around and compare other funds.
